We woke up to another lovely day :) We had a leisurely start and did exercises outside, a bit cooler than yesterday but still lovely. After breakfast we went on the bikes. We biked through Chappelle Aux Noux and over the bridge into Langeais which was really nice. Lovely little town where we bought bread and croissants and visited the tourist information to get a cycle path map – free :) before they shut for lunch. Cycled on up towards the chateau and had a look through the gate – only wanted to see outside, didn’t want to pay to go in! There was a nice church but I resisted the urge to go in!!! Biked back over the bridge and went towards Brehemont. Stopped for a picnic right on the river edge just outside the village. We just had bread and cheese and some lovely wet walnuts and an apple. Fed some bits of bread and the rind off the cheese to the small fish at the edge – the big ones just glide past and are not interested at all. Carried on the cycle path through the village over many bridges on the River Indre to the town of Azay Le Rideau. Sadly this meant we had to go along a very boring piece of main road but that was the only bad bit. The town was really nice, another chateau – again viewed through the gate and lots of water – we saw yet another kingfisher! This one gave us a good show and sat on a low branch for ages so we could get a good look :) We did lose each other for a brief period but soon met up at the chateau gates :) It was a really steep hill out of the town and we did consider going back to Langeais by the main road but are glad we didn’t because after the enormous hill the cycle path took you through some lovely woodland and past a beautiful chateau – Le Gerfaut which had one turret and half a roof missing! It looked like the damage was caused by fire :( We also found some apple trees by the road and picked two for tomorrow! The area is covered in orchards of apples and pears. On to the village of Valleres where we decided to go off the cycle route (which took you out to Villandry) and cut across to the river bank and back to the van. Amazingly for us it worked out just right and we didn’t have to walk over fields etc.. We did take a short cut through someone’s yard but hey – it was ok! Back at the van we had our cuppa sitting on the rug watching the birds on the river frighten a shoal of little fish in the shallows then I fished until past sunset and Mag did her nature books and made pasta for tea. Great day :)
